Since 1996, Dr. W. Randolph Chitwood, Jr.
and his team at East Carolina University and University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina have been performing mitral valve
surgery using the latest videoscopic and robotic techniques. We are the leading center in the world for robotic mitral valve
repairs using the da Vinci robotic system. To date we have performed over 350 minimally invasive videoscopic mitral valve
repairs using Aesop and over 140 robotic repairs using da Vinci. These repairs are performed through a two and a half inch
incision. We completed the first US clinical trials for robotic mitral valve surgery using da Vinci and led the multi-center
trial which received FDA approval in November of 2002. We have the largest training center for robotic mitral valve surgery
in the United States. Visit our website mitral valve surgeryfor more detailed information and how to contact us.
